'Vigil for a Peaceful Transition'Thirty people turned out for the Jan. 19 "Vigil for a Peaceful Transition" in downtown Albany. The noontime vigil started in the Albany First Christian Church parking with words by Nancy Greenman and FCC Associate Pastor Eric Eide and a prayer by Albany Mennonite Pastor Peter Epp. Participants then walked to Fourth and Ellsworth, where the vigil continued until 1 p.m. The vigil was coordinated by the Albany Peace Seekers. Greenman remembered two longtime Peace Seekers, now deceased, who would have been all in for Tuesday's vigil. Don Rea, who died last Feb. 5 at age 94, and Ed Hemmingson, who passed away last Friday at 93, were well known locally for their peace and justice activism. Ed's wife June took part in Tuesday's vigil.
