'It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term.'

Linn Dems Chair Jerred Taylor comments
on President Biden's decision

July 21
Good morning fellow Democrats,
A few minutes ago, President Joe Biden announced he is ending his Presidential campaign. Biden’s presidency has been transformative, delivering student loan relief to millions of Americans, reducing the cost of prescription drugs, including insulin, to seniors, and some of the largest investments in infrastructure since the New Deal. This announcement, while not completely unexpected, will add uncertainty to the already unpredictable 2024 campaign. There will be a robust debate over who best can carry the Democratic banner going forward. It is IMPERITIVE that we work with whoever our elected delegates nominate at the convention in August to defeat Donald Trump and protect Democracy this November, and I am confident we all will come together to do just that.
Thank you all for your continued efforts as we move into the next phase of this rollercoaster ride.
— Jerred Taylor,
   Chair, Linn County Democrats

Peter Courtney, the longest serving lawmaker in Oregon history and former president of the Senate, died Tuesday morning in his home in Salem at the age of 81.
Gov. Tina Kotek announced his death in a statement, saying he died from complications related to cancer and was surrounded by family.
“It is with incredible sadness that I share the news today of the passing of Peter Michael Coleman Courtney, the former president of the Oregon State Senate and longest-serving state legislator in Oregon history,” Kotek said. “The First Lady and I ask that Oregonians hold Peter’s family – his wife Margie, their children and grandchildren – in their hearts and prayers.”

Janelle Bynum speaks to Linn County Dems

Fifth Congressional District candidate Janelle Bynum is visiting every Democratic Central Committee, and June 6 was Linn County's turn. Bynum, a state representative who defeated Jamie McLeod Skinner in last month's primary election, talked about her background, fielded questions and asked for suggestions for her campaign. In the Nov. 5 General Election, Bynum will face Republican incumbent Lori Chavez-DeRemer, whom she has defeated twice before in Oregon House races. Both candidates live in Happy Valley in Clackamas County.
The Linn Dems also heard from John Phillips IV, Second Vice President of the NAACP Linn Benton Branch, who talked about the upcoming Juneteenth celebration, scheduled for 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at LBCC. There will be food, music, a Black-owned Business Expo and family

 activities.
Another important date this month is Saturday, the 22nd — the annual Albany Pride Festival, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Albany. Linn Dems will again have a table in the City Hall plaza.
The Linn Dems also unanimously adopted a resolution  thanking

Jamie McLeod-Skinner for running for CD5. (See full resolution below.)
There will be no central committee
meeting in July. Our next central committee gathering will be during the annual Linn Dems Cookout & Pie Auction on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Santiam Place Event Hall in Lebanon. More information to come.

Linn Dems adopt resolution of gratitude
for all that Jamie McLeod-Skinner has done

PictureJamie McLeod-Skinner
During its June 6 monthly general meeting, the Linn County Democratic Central Committee unanimously adopted the following resolution honoring Jamie McLeod-Skinner:

A RESOLUTION OF THE LINN COUNTY, OREGON, DEMOCRATS                                                                                    Resolution 2024 - 5

Regarding: Jamie McLeod-Skinner’s Contributions to Democracy
Whereas, regardless of election outcomes, candidates who give their time and their talents to the process raise important issues and values for voters & make our democracy, and our communities, stronger; and,
Whereas, starting with the CD2 election of 2018, Jamie McLeod-Skinner has exemplified this each time she has participated.  Her expertise and her deep understanding of rural communities and issues has enhanced our own understanding and given us language to express it; and,
Whereas, her integrity and unwavering commitment to the true freedoms that are most precious to us – human, reproductive, and economic – have shown us what is possible in government; and,
Whereas, she has articulated the fundamental values we hold for our community, our state, and our planet – to breathe clean air and live in healthy and safe environment, to vote freely and easily, to marry whom we love, to organize, and to make decisions about our own bodies; and,
Whereas, despite the increasingly exclusionary role that money plays in our politics and elections, she has demonstrated the commitment to run a campaign funded by ordinary Oregonians.
NOW THEREFORE, THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF LINN COUNTY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
The Linn County Democrats express our deep gratitude for all Jamie McLeod-Skinner has given to and done for us and our community; and we look forward to supporting her in her future endeavors.

Resolution submitted unanimously by the Neighborhood Leader Team and Nancy Greenman, Linn County Democrats Neighborhood Leader Program Coordinator.
