  WHY I'M RUNNING:

As your Governor, I’m working to make Oregon an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

I have spent my entire career fighting to give all Oregonians the opportunity to thrive. Before I became involved in state politics, I advocated for children as a family law attorney, where I saw firsthand the importance of good jobs, strong schools, and affordable, high quality healthcare.

In the past four years, access to coverage has been expanded to 94% of adults and 100% of children, and that’s means more families can get the care they need without fear of going bankrupt.

Under my leadership, we passed the largest education budget in Oregon’s history, which included funding all-day kindergarten statewide for the first time ever. And these investments are working: since I’ve been in office, graduation rates have risen 4.7 percent overall, including a 7 percent increase for students of color, immigrant and special education students.

These are students who are ready to enter the workforce, who have benefited from increased funding towards career technical education programs. We’re growing these programs under my initiative, Future Ready Oregon.

And if these students choose to go to college, it’s more affordable than ever -- the recent addition of $28 million to the Oregon Promise program allows low-income students to attend community college for as little as $50 a semester.

I’ll keep fighting to defend Oregon values from the chaos, confusion and division in Washington, D.C. Together, we can keep Oregon a shining beacon of hope.
  – Kate Brown
