• WHY I’M RUNNING: I believe it is important that our elected representatives have the skill sets that match the needs of the area and that they have the influence necessary in the legislature to pass strong legislation that will make a broad impact on quality of life for constituents. Historically, rural areas have struggled with a loss of identity as natural resource-centric industries have shut down over the years causing dwindling job opportunities and less access to education, basic services and resources. These types of issues are in a Social Worker’s wheelhouse and the ability to develop comprehensive community-level policy is a strength I would bring to the legislature.
Personally, what inspired me to run was my dad. He is a retired law enforcement officer and war veteran with serious mental health issues. Back in 2019 he went into an episode of manic psychosis for 2 months straight. He was hospitalized 3 times because the laws are written in a way that state hospitals can only keep him for 72 hours unless he is suicidal or homicidal. He was neither of those things, so even though he was still actively psychotic, they kept releasing him. After 2 months of worrying and not being able to protect him, the courts finally granted me guardianship and conservatorship of him, so I could properly care for him.
I’m running because our most vulnerable keep falling through the cracks of the system. When we help our most vulnerable, we aren’t just helping those individuals, we are helping everyone associated with them, which means we are helping our community at-large.
