The Linn County Democrats have endorsed Jamie McLeod-Skinner for Oregon's 5th Congressional District!
This May, Democrats in Oregon have the opportunity to nominate a strong leader to represent Oregon's 5th Congressional District. The Linn County Democrats are proud to have been the first county Democratic Party to endorse Jamie McLeod-Skinner for her run for Congress. We're also incredibly excited to share that in the weeks that followed our endorsement that the Deschutes County Democrats, Marion County Democrats and Clackamas County Democrats have joined us in endorsing Jamie! Here are some of the reasons we support Jamie McLeod-Skinner in the primary, and why we hope you will join us as well!
🔵 Jamie will fight for the things that matter to all Oregonians
As a member of Congress, Jamie will address the climate crisis, support working families and our economic recovery, and protect our democracy.
Addressing the Climate Crisis 🍃The climate crisis is destroying our homes, crops, and the air we breathe. Jamie will set policies and create incentives to change this trajectory as well as improve our responses to the resulting disasters. |
Supporting working families & economic recovery 💪We need to invest in affordable housing, healthcare, homecare, childcare, special and early childhood education, debt-free community college and trade programs (so unions aren’t left carrying that load), and a person’s right to choose. |
Protecting our democracy 🗳️From voting rights to meaningful campaign finance reform to ending partisan gerrymandering, we must tackle issues that undermine public trust. We must ensure all voters from across divides can be heard and easily participate in our democratic process. |
🔵 Jamie has a heart for service and walks the talk
Jamie McLeod-Skinner, an emergency response coordinator, small business owner, engineer, attorney, and proud democrat, has focused her career on rebuilding communities and protecting our natural resources. A former union member with working-class roots, she is an outspoken advocate for climate justice, reproductive rights, racial justice, working families, and bridging the urban-rural divide.
Jamie began her public service repairing schools and hospitals in Bosnia and Kosovo before returning to the U.S. to manage refugee resettlement and organizational capacity building programs. She has led organizational change, mediated community disputes, and managed teams through crises. In 2021, Jamie led wildfire recovery efforts as Talent’s Interim City Manager, bringing in millions of dollars in aid and emergency housing.
Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, a Master’s in Regional Planning, and a law degree with a focus on Natural Resources Law. She serves as an elected board member of the Jefferson County Education Service District, a board member of the Northwest Health Foundation, and she was appointed by Governor Kate Brown to serve on the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board.
