WHY I'M RUNNING: Those fighting against racism and sexism need to see equality within reach. The fight to save our planet will only succeed if climate action is within reach. Whatever your fight: whether to end gun violence or for universal health care; for LGBTQIA equality or a just immigration system; for reproductive justice or workers’ rights; for income inequality or any other challenge facing your family – all require progress to be within reach.
That’s what draws me into the race for Secretary of State — the job that puts progress within reach because of our faith in democracy. To make sure every Oregonian knows their voice, their actions, their ballot, can make a difference because, when democracy works, progress is always within reach.
As Secretary of State, I will prioritize expanding voter access with a particular focus on underserved communities, developing and implementing a forward-looking election security master plan, and championing campaign finance reform efforts.
Growing up in and out of poverty and homelessness in Dufur and The Dalles, my life was fundamentally changed when my 4th-grade teacher took me under his wing. After putting myself through college and law school, I have dedicated my career to ensuring that the path out of poverty exists for every Oregonian.
As a school board member, in the state House and Senate, and as a civil rights attorney, I have been a fearless fighter for Oregon families. In Salem, I have fought fought for increased education funding, fair housing solutions and increased access to health care for Oregonian.
A proud mother of two, I’m running for Secretary of State to bring a fair Oregon within reach for my children – and yours.
