Linn Democrats adopt resolution on Gaza The Linn County Democratic Central Committee, during its Sept. 4 monthly meeting, unanimously approved a resolution urging "immediate, unrestricted and sustained humanitarian aid distribution to the people of Gaza, along with an immediate ceasefire, arms embargo and suspension of military aid to Israel.
The resolution, submitted by Susan Heath, Joanna Robinson, Rick Staggenborg, and Brandi Tucker, is titled "Regarding: Palestine and An Embargo on Military Aid and Weapons Transfer to Israel." It reads, in part, that the Linn County Democratic Party resolves as follows: "Section 1. We condemn, in the strongest of terms, Israel’s ongoing program of famine and genocide in Gaza. "Section 2. We expect our elected representatives to respond with actions that match the scale of the crisis, to stand up for the starving children in Gaza, and to use every available tool to demand the immediate, unrestricted, and sustained reopening of humanitarian aid distribution to the people of Gaza at the scale needed to reverse this worsening famine. "Section 3. We support (a) an immediate ceasefire; (b) an arms embargo; and (c) a suspension of military aid. "Section 4. We affirm our commitment to international law, the dignity and human rights of all people, especially those who are in urgent need, and the pursuit of a just and lasting peace for all in the region." |
