Rep. Bynum speaks with Linn County Democrats![]() The Linn County Democratic Central Committee held its monthly general meeting meeting Feb. 6. Along with committee updates and the nomination/appointment of new Precinct Committee People, and update to our bylaws, we were joined via Zoom by Congresswoman Janelle Bynum. We appreciate Congresswoman Bynum for taking the time to speak with us, particularly during such a tumultuous time in our nation. She provided an update on her work in Washington, D.C., and highlighted key points from her recent floor speeches. Members expressed disappointment that the Congresswoman did not address her vote on the Laken Riley Act. One member specifically asked for greater transparency and communication through social media and email, emphasizing the need for consistent engagement with constituents. (Bynum issued a explanation of her vote on the Laken Riley Act.) We strongly encourage the congresswoman to continue holding town halls, as open dialogue is essential — not only for maintaining a path to future electoral success but also for ensuring that her voting record aligns with our core values. While we appreciated her statements on immigration, words alone are not enough — we need to see actions that reflect those commitments. It's noteworthy that she supported HB 3352 in 2021, a bill aimed at expanding healthcare coverage regardless of immigration status during her tenure as an Oregon State Representative. We encourage all members to contact Congresswoman Bynum (and our senators) with any concerns at her Oregon office (503-387-8651) or DC office (202-225-5711) or bynum.house.gov/contact. |
