3rd Banner Drop greets OSU-UO game traffic
The Albany Banner Brigade, which opposes the Trump administration's policies and actions, turned out Saturday morning, Sept. 20, on the Santiam Highway overpass at I-5, with messages for southbound ("NO TROOPS IN OUR CITIES") and northbound ("NO TYRANNY!") traffic. Many southbound vehicles were heading to Autzen Stadium for the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry game, which kicked off at noon. A number of the banner drop participants wore their Beaver and Duck colors and waved pool noodles topped with orange and yellow hands. Organized by Albany Region Indivisible, it was the brigade's third banner drop from the Santiam Highway overpass since Aug. 30. Twenty people participated

Dessert Auction raises $4,200 for Linn Dems
More than 50 people turned out for the 2025 Linn County Democrats' Cookout and Dessert Auction on Sept. 14 at Santiam Place Wedding & Event Hall in Lebanon. Cindy Bethell had the evening's high bid of $300 for Nichole Case's Triple Berry Pie entry. After posing with Nichole and the pie, Cindy quickly served it up to anyone who wanted a slice. State Sen. Sara Gelser Blouin baked two of the more than 20 desserts that were auctioned off: A "decadent coconut cake" and a Berry Blush cake. The auction, which is the biggest annual fundraiser for the Linn County Dems, brought in about $4,200. Thanks to everyone who baked and contributed the desserts and to those who organized the event and made it a fun evening.

 Albany residents Susana Arroyo and Ismael Jaramillo represented Peña Charra, an organization that promotes Mexican culture | The rain stayed away from Festival Latino on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 14, in Albany's Monteith Riverpark. The annual festival, from noon to 5 p.m., featured musical acts, art and history, a resource fair, children's activities and food vendors. The festival was presented by the Linn-Benton Hispanic Advisory Committee. Angel Salinas sings "Ella" during Mariachi Los Gallos de America's performance. |
