• WHY I’M RUNNING:
I am running as a non-partisan candidate for State Representative in House District 11 because I believe rural Linn County needs an independent voice in the Oregon State Legislature. During her time in the legislature, my opponent has repeatedly put special interests and out-of-state corporations ahead of the people she was elected to serve. That’s not the kind of leadership we need in Salem and I am committed to making sure that independent-minded Oregonians in our district have their voices represented once again.
The issue that got me into this race was my opponent’s opposition to legislation to address concerns in the Scio area over an influx of out-of-state owned factory-sized chicken operations that threatened our water supplies and rural quality of life. We passed that bill despite her objections, but it became clear that in addition to this issue, time and again, my opponent has voted against the interests of rural Linn County.
She voted against legislation to help rural residents access needed prescription medications, against expanding broadband connectivity to help rural areas with high speed internet access, against funding needed upgrades to Sweet Home’s wastewater treatment facilities, and against funding for maintenance and repairs at our county and state fairgrounds.
She has also voted against bills to support early childhood education and literacy programs, against investments in community college career and technical education programs, against supporting breakfast and lunch programs in our schools, and against assistance for food and infant formula for low income mothers.
Rural Linn County deserves better than this. That’s why I’m running for office and asking for your vote.
