John Robert Lewis, civil rights legend and longtime Congressman from Georgia, died July 17 after a six-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 80. "Today, America mourns the loss of one of the greatest heroes of American history: Congressman John Lewis, the Conscience of the Congress," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement announcing his death.
